Government Relations and Public Service Specialist | Rave Mobile Safety

Sean Lauziere originally planned on attending college after graduating from high school, but fate threw a few curveballs his way before he was able to follow his dream of becoming involved in government and education.

When he was 17, his 16-year-old sister became pregnant. As a child of a single mother, he knew the challenges of raising a child alone, so he helped raise his niece, putting his own education and dreams on hold.

After his niece began kindergarten, Sean started at QCC in the fall of 2009 at age 26. “QCC gave me the opportunity to realize a dream I thought had passed me by,” he said.

He thrived at QCC, receiving the “You’re A Star Award,” and made the college’s Dean’s List each semester. Graduating with high honors in 2011, Sean realized his dream of becoming the first member of his family to earn a college degree. However, it was only the beginning of his journey, as his academic achievement drew the attention of Northeastern University, which offered Mr. Lauziere a full scholarship to join the university’s political science program.

He said his professors at Quinsigamond were instrumental in encouraging him to seek further education and helping him obtain the scholarship that allowed him to attend Northeastern.

“I don’t think I would have been able to afford it without that,” he said. “Two of my professors were especially helpful to me throughout the process, proofreading my essays and looking at what programs were available to me.”

At Northeastern, Sean made Dean’s List in each of the six semesters he spent working towards a dual major in political science and international affairs. He graduated magna cum laude, and was offered admission to the University’s graduate program in public policy, which he accepted and joined in 2013. He completed his master’s degree in public policy administration in December 2014.

Mr. Lauziere recently accepted a position as a Government Relations and Public Service Specialist with Rave Mobile Safety, which provides a variety of emergency response and preparedness software applications that improve response times and public safety across communities and college campuses nationwide.

Previously, he was on the staff of Massachusetts Senate Committee on Post-Audit and Oversight Chairwoman Cynthia Stone Creem, where he investigates government agencies and programs. The findings are reported findings directly to the Senate President and Governor.

While at Northeastern, he was a teaching assistant for an undergraduate course on law and public policy, assisting the professor with teaching and grading for the class. He also worked individually with students on their class research projects. He continues to work as a teaching assistant.

During the 2012 presidential election, he was part of a small team of political science students chosen to create a website about nominating conventions that was used by the Boston Public School system as a way to educate and engage youth in civic activities.

Mr. Lauziere lives in Worcester and commutes to Boston, but is hoping to work for the city of Worcester in the future.

He said QCC really reaches out and embraces the diverse community in the city. “It is a great place to start, and it offers endless possibilities to get your foot in the door of so many places,” he said.
