Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), rewards the knowledge and skills you have gained over the years by translating those learning experiences into college-level coursework. Save money and complete your degree faster by demonstrating what you already know through workplace experience and training, military service, professional certifications, or volunteer service.

Javier Viera
I received over 50 credits. It saved me over a year of time, effort, and money. It’s a benefit that will help you get credit for all of the time that you spent in the field…Let QCC help you if this is something you want to do.

Credit for Prior Learning Opportunities

There are several ways to turn your experiences into college credit.

At QCC, we recognize the following standardized tests.

Advanced Placement (AP)

Earn college credit for high school AP courses if you score a three or higher on the AP exam, which is administered by the College Board.

Download the AP Information Sheet.

Challenge Examination

Challenge exams are developed and administered by QCC. If you feel confident that you have mastery of Introduction to Microcomputer Applications (CIS 111) or Keyboarding Applications (BSS 101) please connect with a CPL Specialist to find out if challenge exams are an option for you. experience@qcc.mass.edu or 508-854-4461.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

You are a good candidate for CLEP credit if you have acquired substantial knowledge in general education subjects, such as English, math, history, psychology, and foreign languages.

Download the CLEP Information Sheet.

DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST)

If you have acquired substantial knowledge in general education or technical subjects, such as business, science, or criminal justice, you may be a good candidate for the DSST.

Download the DSST Information Sheet.

Seal of Biliteracy Examination

The State Seal of Biliteracy is an award provided by the State of Massachusetts that recognizes public high school graduates who attain high functional and academic levels of proficiency in English and a world language in recognition of having studied and attained proficiency in two languages by high school graduation.

If you’ve completed coursework or professional trainings outside of an accredited college program, you may be eligible for credentialing credits. QCC students have earned college credit in academic areas including but not limited to; healthcare, automotive, hospitality, computer science, fire science, manufacturing, business, and engineering.

QCC proudly supports our veteran and active-duty military students. We recognize the value of the many foundational training and leadership learning experiences provided by the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the National Guard. Veteran and active-duty students may be eligible to receive academic credit for these experiences through a comprehensive JST (joint-services transcript) evaluation.

Note: Military students who attended the Community College of the Air Force should submit official CCAF transcripts to the Registrar’s Office.

Students may receive college credit for coursework completed while in high school. Learn more about our high school articulation agreements and Chapter 74 .

You may be able to receive college credit for work experience and trainings. Through written work and documentation, students must demonstrate that specific course competencies and college-level learning are met.

If you’ve taken non-credit courses in education, healthcare, or hospitality at QCC, you may be eligible to earn credit toward a degree program.
