Academic Advising
Advising Center
The Advising Center assists students in planning a strategy for achieving their career and academic goals. We guide students through the academic experience at QCC from the time they first enter the College until their final semester, and help them align their academic and career pursuits.
There are three ways to work with Academic Advising!
- On-campus by drop-in: Set up a meeting with EZQ!
- Phone: Call us at 508.854.4308 and ask to be put on our call-back list. An advisor will return your call.
- Email: advising [at] qcc.mass.edu; include your student ID number if you have one.
Starting at QCC
Upon entering QCC, it may be necessary as a new student to determine your initial placement in Math and English. Please refer to our placement guidelines for more information. As you review our placement guidelines, you will want to speak with an Academic Advisor, who will help you determine the best initial placement into courses. No appointment is necessary, as we meet with students via email or phone on a first-come, first-served basis.
An advisor can also help you:
- outline educational and career goals.
- develop an Academic Plan to achieve success.
- map out program courses and requirements.
- prepare for self-registration or register for courses.
QCC Resources
Advisors also provide information about important resources at QCC and careers associated with QCC programs of study. (If you need assistance with a job search or finding a co-op or internship please contact Career Services.)
There are several types of advisors to whom you may be assigned:
- Advising Center Advisor/Advising Center-Health: Full or part time professional academic advisors who are affiliated with the Advising Center.
- Faculty Advisor: Full time faculty who have a caseload of students within their respective major.
- Program Advisors: If you are affiliated with a specific program (Future Focus, Gateway to College, TRiO, for example), you will be assigned to a staff member within that program.
Advisor assignments take place in late September and early February. Students are emailed (via QMail) at those times with notification of their advisor assignment.
The Q (Student & Faculty Portal)
The Q is QCC’s faculty and student portal. It contains information specific to your needs, and will be your go-to place for pertinent information as a student.
The Advising page within the “Services” tab on The Q contains many resources for students, such as how to read your degree audit, how to register for classes, student success materials, and helpful links.
If you LOG IN to The Q, you can then review your own academics and register for classes through the Academics Tab. You will receive your Q login and password upon your acceptance via mail.
