QCC Announces Distinguished Lecture Series for Spring

Worcester, Ma – Quinsigamond Community College has announced its Liberal Arts Distinguished Lecture Series for the spring semester.

On Thursday, February 26 at 2:00pm Dr. Piper Gaubatz, Ph.D., of the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, will present a lecture, titled, “Where is Beijing’s Center? Urban Transformation in Post-Olympics China.”

Dr. Gaubatz received her B.A. from Princeton and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. She is an urban geographer, specializing in analyses of urban change in China, and is currently an associate professor of geography at UMass. Her illustrated lecture will provide an overview of past, present and future urban landscapes, form, and planning for the city of Beijing.

On Thursday, April 2 at 2:00pm Dr. Anthony Lee, Ph.D, chair of the art history department at Mount Holyoke College, will give a lecture titled, “A Shoemaker’s Story.” A prize-winning author and popular lecturer, Dr. Lee’s most recent publication is A Shoemaker's Story: Being Chiefly about French Canadian Immigrants, Enterprising Photographers, Rascal Yankees, and Chinese Cobblers in a Nineteenth-Century Factory Town (Princeton University Press, Spring 2008).

Both lectures will take place in Room 109 of the Harrington Learning Center on QCC’s campus. They are free and open to the public.
