QCC Safety Corner

May 2023
  • QCC Safety Corner

The  Safety Committee is continuing to answer questions and comments it has received through the Wyvern Guardian newsletter.  Below please find the answers to several more questions. Make sure to check back each month as additional questions and answers will be posted.

1. Employees have wondered if there was a lockdown plan and if so, why weren't they aware of the procedures?

The Safety Committee will promote the existence of emergency plans (i.e. emergency guidebooks). The Emergency Guide books are posted in classrooms and various offices throughout campus. Emergency Guide books can also be found online at www.qcc.edu/campus-police-alerts/emergency-response

2. [In response to the event on October, 24, 2023] The information that would have made people coming to campus in the evening feel safer was not communicated in the email and the alert that indicated that the lockdown had been lifted.

Communication will be sent when a threat ends and everything returns to normal.

3. The community would like immediate post-crisis debriefing for students, staff, and faculty.

QCC Police will host a public After Action Review.

4. Communication is unclear and not sufficiently specific enough. Public Safety, Academic Affairs, and other departments should collaborate on creating clear and understandable messaging. This will decrease anxiety and improve appropriate responses to various situations.

The Safety Committee will make communications clear and concise.
