Hispanic Heritage Month

In 1968, President Lyndon Johnson began recognizing Hispanic Heritage Week, before it was expanded to a month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage, acknowledging the history and culture of our nation’s Latinx and Hispanic communities.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year between September 15 – October 15, with festivities to honor and recognize the incredible achievements and contributions of Latinx and Hispanic Americans.

At QCC, on September 20, 2022, at noon in the Harrington Learning Center (Rooms 109 A&B) Worcester City Manager, Eric Batista will discuss his journey to becoming the first Hispanic Worcester City Manager. All are welcome to attend. For more information, email QCC’s Director of Student Life and Leadership, Ashlee Givins at agivins [at] qcc.mass.edu.

HACE Reception

The Hispanics Achieving and Celebrating Excellence (HACE) Committee, created in 1985 by staff and faculty at Quinsigamond Community College along with others in the Worcester community, is working to raise community awareness of the richness of the Hispanic culture, as well as Worcester and Southbridge Hispanic youth accomplishments by:

  • Encouraging youth to focus on education and take positive steps to live whole and successful lives
  • Recognizing achievements of young people of Hispanic heritage in such areas as academics, arts, athletics, community service, leadership, and political/civic engagement
  • Providing positive role models through inspirational speakers and exposure to community leaders who participate and support the efforts of the HACE Committee

The 37th HACE Reception will take place in person in Room 109 A&B in the Harrington Learning Center, on QCC's main campus on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 5:30 PM. Over the last 37 years, the Committee has recognized 786 Hispanic students with financial awards totaling $198,600.

This year's event theme is "Resiliency Stories After COVID-19." This year's Key Note speaker is HACE Class of 2010 and QCC alumna Aimee Maldonado who earned a Juris Doctor at Penn State Dickinson Law and an M.S. in Accounting from Nichols College.
