United Way Community Members Tour HomePlate Food Pantry and Resource Center

In mid-October, community members from the United Way of Central Massachusetts had the opportunity to preview QCC’s newly expanded HomePlate Food Pantry and Resource Center.

The HomePlate Food Pantry and Resource Center has more than doubled in size and can greatly increase its services, thanks in part to United Way’s grant, which was used to fund a state-of-the-art electronic software system “SmartChoice.” This new system enables students to pre-select food that is then packaged in baskets for them, in a safe, contact-free way.

“Once students register to use the food pantry, they are able to go online, find out what food is available for the week, and order what they need. They will set up an appointment to pick up their food, which will be set aside for them when they arrive, said QCC’s Manager of Student Resources Bonnie Coleman. “The new state-of the art software streamlines the process of using the food pantry for our students.”

The newly renovated food pantry opened in late September to all students and to date over 175 students are regularly utilizing its services. Ms. Coleman only sees that number continuing to grow as the word gets out to students.

Food Pantry services will be in Room B65A in the Administration Building on:

• Monday: Noon- 5:00 p.m.
• Tuesday:  9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Wednesday: 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Friday: 11:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
