New Coach is a Slam Dunk for QCC’s Women’s Basketball Team

August 2018

As someone who has played basketball all his life, Worcester resident Gabriel “Gabe” Santner was a natural fit as Quinsigamond Community College’s new Women’s Head Basketball Coach. A self-professed lover of all things basketball-related and someone who played varsity in high school, he said he’s always wanted to coach and is excited to share his love of the game with QCC students.

“I still play all the time. There’s a lot of benefits to it. It gets you out in the community and keeps you mentally and physically in shape,” he said.

While Coach Santner may not be a power forward on the court (he played point guard in high school), off the court he is a true powerhouse as QCC’s new Director of Mentoring for Perkins Programs.

As the director of the mentoring program, he understands that there are other commitments that students have such as families and jobs.

“Playing basketball helps students in other areas and my goal is to help them succeed,” he said.

While tryouts are not until October, Coach Santner said there open gym sessions that will be held in the coming weeks. He is looking to have a full rooster for the 2018-2019 year and asks that anyone interested in playing to email him at gsantner [at] qcc.mass.edu .
