Worcester, MA – January 9, 2020 –The 35th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast will be held at Quinsigamond Community College on Monday, January 20, 2020 at QCC’s Athletic Center on 670 West Boylston Street, Worcester, MA.  This year’s theme for the breakfast is “More than a Day Off,” and will highlight musical selections from local church choirs and soloists.

On January 20, 2020, millions of people across the United States will unite in service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  As noted by the United Way of Central Massachusetts, a national day of service honoring the memory of Dr. King is valued as a "day on, not a day off," with millions of people

nationwide contributing to the largest volunteer day of the year. This year, partnering with the United Way of Central Massachusetts, WamsWorks (Worcester Area Mission Society) and the United Congregational Church, The Reverend Martin Luther King Community Breakfast Committee invites the community to participate in this day of service at the MLK Breakfast.

With a focus on early literacy, the Committee will be collecting new children’s books for grades K-3 related to Dr. King, or books that have a social justice theme.  All books will be distributed to select Worcester schools. Those in attendance are invited to assist in assembling early literacy kits for young Worcester students at the conclusion of the breakfast.

As has been the tradition, the Committee will also be recognizing the winners of an area Essay and Art contest held at local schools and this year’s MLK Scholarship winners. The scholarships are funded through the Committee’s yearly golf tournament, as well as one offered through Quinsigamond Community College.

Mistress of Ceremony for the breakfast will be Dr. Matilde Castiel, MD, commissioner of Health and Human Services for the City of Worcester.

Doors open at 7:00 a.m. and the program will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.  Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door on the day of the event. Tickets are $25 each ($250 for a table of 10) and may be purchased by contacting Selina Boria at QCC President’s Office, 508.854.4368 or by emailing her at sboria [at] qcc.mass.edu for additional information.
