Worcester Public Schools Partner with QCC for Math Pre-Assessment Workshops for High School Juniors and Seniors

Worcester, MA, March 14, 2012 – QCC will hold a Parent and Student Gathering to present information on QCC’s new Math Workshops for Worcester Public School students, funded by the Vision Project Performance Grant.

The agenda includes greetings from Kathy Radley, QCC’s Manager of Educational Partnerships, welcoming from QCC President Gail Carberry and Melinda Boone, Worcester Public Schools Superintendant and a question and answer period. QCC Math Professor and Co-Project Manager for the Vision Project, Aemiro Beyene, will introduce the collaborative plan for Math Pre-Assessment Workshops designed to refresh students’ math skills in preparation for success in college mathematics.

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ competitive Vision Project Performance Grant was awarded to QCC in September to support a variety of new and existing programs to improve college readiness and attendance of high school graduates as well as college graduation and student success rates. QCC was awarded $180,500 from a total $2.5 million award to provide math boot camps and enhance the college’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program.
