This unique program provides extensive benefits to students and professional development and networking opportunities for mentors.

The 411 on Our Mentoring Program

Thrive Under Guidance

Let a mentor help fuel your path to greatness! Connect with our experienced mentors who will guide you toward success, offer valuable insights, and empower your professional and personal growth.

How to Become a Mentee

To become a QCC Mentee, you must complete an application. Once the application is completed, you will schedule a phone interview with a QCC staff member. After the interview, you will be able to browse through all our available mentors and select your mentor. You can also request a QCC staff member to choose a mentor for you.

Mentee Expectations

To help build a successful mentor relationship, QCC Mentees are expected to:

  • Schedule and attend at least one, 30-minute to one-hour, face-to-face or virtual session per month with the mentor throughout the academic year.
  • Read through the Mentee Training PowerPoint.
  • Maintain contact with the mentor through electronic means throughout the semester.
  • Maintain contact with QCC Mentoring staff via email.

Drop-in/Sign-up

Drop in, sign up, and get a mentor all at once.

  • In Person: Stop by the Admin Building, Room 200A.

Champion Growth

Make a lasting impact by becoming a QCC mentor! Share your wisdom, inspire minds, and guide students on their path to success. Join our community of mentors who are dedicated to shaping the next generation of leaders.

Become a Mentor

Ready to become a QCC mentor? First, you must complete an application. After completing the application, you will schedule a virtual interview and orientation. Mentors cannot be current QCC students. Mentors will receive training, guidance, resources, and support to aid them in helping their mentees succeed.

Mentor Expectations

If you decide to become a mentor, you are expected to:

  • Schedule and attend at least one 30-minute to one-hour face-to-face or virtual session per month with the mentee throughout the academic year.
  • Maintain contact with the mentee(s) via electronic means throughout the semester(s).
  • Celebrate mentee success.
  • Maintain contact with QCC Mentoring staff via email.
  • Encourage mentees to take advantage of campus services.
  • Attend additional QCC Mentoring events throughout the year, according to interest.
QCC Mentoring is using an online mentoring platform called Xinspire to support our matches. This platform will allow you to select a mentor, keep in touch with your match, and access great mentoring resources.

Help Others. Help Yourself.

The mentor-mentee relationship is a mutually beneficial relationship. Our mentors have a unique ability to connect with QCC students and a desire to share their experiences to help our students succeed. Through this relationship, both parties have a chance to learn and grow together.

Shirley Dempsey is a QCC Alumna, the Director of Operations, and mentor to Nino Miranda. Hear more about their relationship and experience in the mentor program.

The connection that we’ve had in the program, it pushes us outside of our comfort zone and challenges us. That’s when you achieve things.

Mentoring FAQs

QCC Mentoring matches QCC students with staff, faculty, and professionals from the Greater Worcester Community and beyond to build one-on-one mentoring relationships. These relationships focus on academic encouragement, professional skill-building, and social connections.

All participants in QCC Mentoring should meet monthly at one of our QCC Campuses or virtually for up to one hour. Mentors and mentees should communicate as needed to schedule these meetings and do their best to remain in contact.

Prospective Mentors fill out an application. Once the application is complete, a QCC staff member will contact you, and we will schedule an in-person interview, orientation, and criminal background check.

Prospective Mentees can fill out an application. Once you’ve completed an application, a QCC staff member will let you know when a suitable mentor has been found.

We hope the mentoring relationship is built on respectful discussion regarding the mentee’s academic, personal, and professional goals. The QCC Mentoring team will send out “Area of Focus” activities each month, which can help guide the monthly sessions and provide context for your conversations.

QCC Mentoring staff will do their best to match mentees with mentors in a professional field that is of interest to the student and that shares common hobbies or interests with a mentor. Similar availability to attend meetings is also a criteria.

We ask that mentors and mentees stay matched for the entire academic year. At the end of the year evaluation, we will ask both participants to let us know if they want to keep the same mentor.
QCC Mentoring core partners are organizations or companies that commit to sending ten or more mentors to participate in the program. Core partners receive key benefits, including on-site mentor training and recruitment, a dedicated pipeline of mentees in a chosen field, QCC Mentoring visits and tours throughout the year, and co-sponsorship of QCC Mentoring events. We could not run the QCC Mentoring Program without our wonderful partners! If your organization is interested, please reach out to klewis@qcc.mass.edu.

Meet the Core Mentors

Core partners of QCC Mentoring are organizations that have sent ten or more mentors to the program. Mentors and mentees will take tours of each core partner organization, and core partners receive additional training and pipeline opportunities.
