      • High School Articulation Agreements

In 2010, the Massachusetts Community Colleges Executive Office (MCCEO) and the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) partnered to establish a task force with representation from both Chapter 74 vocational high schools and community colleges to form statewide articulation agreements, where students can receive college credits for work completed in high school. They allow students to earn college credit for high school technical coursework, providing a seamless transition to post-secondary education.

Chapter 74

For more information on the Chapter 74 Articulation Agreements, visit the Statewide Agreements website.

Students must have a 3.0 ("B") grade point average in their vocational courses and a 2.0 ("C") overall grade point average, in order to receive college credit once they enroll at QCC and fill out the Student Request for College Credit Form. It must also be within 3 years of graduating from high school.

Below, is a table that shows the credits that QCC will award students for their work in high school.

Benefits For Students

  • Provides students with a jumpstart to a career and college pathway;
  • Ensures that high expectations are established and satisfied for all students;
  • Provides courses that are challenging and exciting, students choose from a list of specific courses that allow them to discover and develop their talent in a career field;
  • Prepares students for success in post-secondary education and occupational environments;
  • Stresses the importance of the relationship between education and career based learning;
  • Reduces college cost and less time to complete the college program; and
  • Provides the option to take advanced technical courses in their college program where appropriate.

Chapter 74 Articulation Agreements

Any Chapter 74 high school that is interested in articulating courses with QCC can contact the Articulation Specialist, Nicole Fortin. Once the high school coursework and articulated course credit is approved, QCC and the high school will sign an Articulation Agreement. The articulated high school coursework "mirrors" college credit courses. The students take the coursework in high school and receive the articulated course credit when they enroll at QCC and meet the state requirements for receiving QCC college credit. If they graduate from high school and have a 3.0 ("B") grade point average in their vocational courses and a 2.0 ("C") overall grade point average, they will receive college credit once they fill out the Student Request for College Credit Form. It must also be within 3 years of graduating from high school.
