Are you an adult learner looking to transition into higher education? Our Future Focus Program can provide you with the information and tools to succeed as you start your academic path. Discover what our free program has to offer!

Let Us Help You Chart Your Path to Success!

We understand that entering college for the first time can be challenging, that’s why we’ve established our Future Focus Program. The Future Focus Program is a one-year, part-time commitment that provides nontraditional students with the information and resources to ease the transition into higher education.

The Future Focus Program was designed specifically for adult learners from adult basic education (ABE) programs. We wanted to create a program where students were able to explore both academic and career interests in a supportive, cohort environment.

The Future Focus Benefits

Future Focus participants are part-time college students who attend daytime or evening classes. Our program coordinator will help you narrow down your career and academic goals, so you can focus on the classes you need to achieve those goals.

The Program

In addition to the personalized career and academic advising, the Future Focus program covers:

  • College tuition and fees
  • Textbooks
  • School supplies
  • Workshops
  • Educational and Cultural Enrichment trips
  • Bus passes if needed

The Classes

Classes include:

  • FYE 101 First Year Experience (Required in the first semester)
  • CIS 111 Introduction to Microcomputer Applications (Required in the first semester)
  • An English course
  • A Math course
  • A major course (e.g., PSY 101, SOC 101, BIO 101, ACC 101, or CRJ 101)

Future Focus Program Requirements

To become a Future Focus student, you must complete an official college application and fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you are enrolled in nine credits or more in one semester, you may be charged the Commonwealth of Massachusetts mandatory health insurance fee. If you already have health insurance coverage, this fee may be waived provided the necessary forms are completed. The Future Focus Program Coordinator can guide you through this process.

What Is Your Commitment?

You must complete five courses – for a total of 15 credits – within one year from their start date. During this time, you must participate in the program orientation each semester, attend program workshops, consistently attend classes, complete coursework, and maintain regular contact with the Future Focus Program Coordinator.

Who Can Participate?

Within the last five years, applicants must have participated in adult secondary education or ESOL/ESL programs funded by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Other applicants will be considered and enrolled depending on program availability. Applicants will be selected based on their demonstrated ability to participate and complete all program components.

Applications are accepted for the fall (submit by July 24) or the spring semester (submit by December 13).
