Credit ESL/ESL Placement Assessment

We offer college-level classes to learn English. These classes are offered during the 15-week semester and will earn you college credit. This means you can earn credit toward your degree in these courses and use financial aid to pay for these classes. You must have a high school diploma or GED and appropriate placement scores to enroll in these classes.

For Credit ESL Course Titles

Here is the list of courses offered during the fall and spring semesters. 

Courses:

  • ESL 103 - English as a Second Language: Writing I
  • ESL 113 - English as a Second Language: Reading I
  • ESL 133 - English as a Second Language: Listening/Speaking I

Credits Per Course: 3

Prerequisites: Non-native speaker of English, High School Diploma or GED and appropriate placement score

Courses:

  • ESL 104 - English as a Second Language: Writing II
  • ESL 114 - English as a Second Language: Reading II
  • ESL 134 - English as a Second Language: Listening/Speaking II 

Credits Per Course: 3

Prerequisites: Non-native speaker of English, High School Diploma or GED and ESL 103 and ESL 113 and ESL 133 passed with grades of "C" or higher or appropriate placement score

Courses:

  • ESL 105 - English as a Second Language: Writing III
  • ESL 115 - English as a Second Language: Reading III
  • ESL 135 - English as a Second Language: Listening/Speaking III

Credits Per Course: 3

Prerequisites: Non-native speaker of English, High School Diploma or GED and ESL 104 and ESL 114 and ESL 134 passed with grades of "C" or higher or appropriate placement score

Courses:

  • ESL 160 - College English Transition 

Credits Per Course: 6

Prerequisites: Non-native speaker of English, High School Diploma or equivalent and ESL 105 and ESL 115 or placement by ESL Coordinator (Coordinator will make decision by combination of CELSA score, Accuplacer Reading score, and a short writing sample)

Spring 2025 Assessments are full. Please fill out the form below to be added to our waitlist, and we will contact you in March/April to schedule an assessment for the Fall 2025 semester.

QCC offers assessment for placement in credit ESL courses. This process will include some readings, a writing sample, and a phone or Zoom interview with an ESL Instructor. All assessment will be conducted remotely. 

Your first step is to apply to the college. If you have any questions about applying to the college, please contact Admissions at 508.853.2300. Once you’ve applied, you will receive a student ID#. That ID# is required to fill out the form below (and to register for classes). Once you have that number, please fill out the form below.
