Psi Beta Honor Society

Psi Beta Students

The QCC Psychology Department hosts a local chapter of Psi Beta, a National Honor Society in Psychology for Community and Junior Colleges. 

Psi Beta’s mission: To encourage professional development and psychological literacy of all students at two-year colleges through promotion and recognition of excellence in scholarship, leadership, research and community service. Our chapter meets regularly with the Psychology Club and provides opportunities to engage with psychology in the following ways:

  • conducting original research
  • presenting at professional conferences
  • hosting a guest lecture series
  • community service
  • fundraising for various community initiatives 

Members of Psi Beta are recognized for academic excellence and are eligible to win Psi Beta awards and scholarships. All QCC students who have an interest in psychology, and meet the eligibility requirements are invited to apply, regardless of their program of study. 

Activities & Events

The QCC Psi Beta National Honor Society and QCC Psychology Club participate in the following activities:

  • Bi-weekly membership meetings 
  • Guest lecture series on forensics; cell phone use & cognition; neuroimaging; ECT; diversity, mental health care and more
  • National research projects
  • Research presentations
  • Community service
  • Fundraising
  • QCC campus events 
  • Psychology conferences
  • Collaboration with other campus organizations & departments including Criminal Justice, Pride, Human Services, Title IX Office & Diversity Caucus.

Recognition & Benefits

Psi Beta provides a means of national recognition of excellence by providing the following benefits:

  • Participation in Psi Beta’s community service and research opportunities
  • Membership may be used as education and career reference throughout your lifetime – the national organization will always verify your membership on your behalf
  • Eligibility for national scholarship and award competitions
  • Mentoring leadership programs for minority students
  • Acquire leadership skills valued by employers and future undergraduate and graduate schools
  • Network with faculty outside of the classroom and make connections with professionals in the field

Membership

You may request induction if you meet the requirements below. Students who are eligible are invited to be inducted during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Have a strong interest in psychology (major in psychology is not required)
  • Completion of at least 1 psychology course 
  • Minimum “B” average in all psychology courses
  • Minimum overall 3.25 GPA
  • Completion of at least 12 credits
