A group of students recently celebrated a significant milestone, earning their CNC machining certificates from QCC. Five students from the refugee program run by Ascentria Care Alliance completed the machinist certificate offered by QCC over the summer. The intensive training program provided participants with practical experience in operating advanced manufacturing equipment, preparing them for entry-level roles in the industry. Ascentria also provides assistance with career placement for many of the graduates.
According to Professor of Manufacturing Technology Lee Duerden, this certification represents more than just a credential—it's a pathway to economic stability and professional growth in their new community.
"It’s an interesting program and I really liked it. It can launch a career that pays well and provides an opportunity to progress," said participant Renaud Cenatus.
