The energy is building, and a brand-new semester is just around the corner!
One of the most recent and exciting milestones in our commitment to student success is the launch of the First-Generation Student Support Center, opening in Room 170A. As a first-generation college student myself, I know firsthand how valuable this center will be to our students. This new center will serve all students, offering academic coaching, workshops, guidance, and connections to campus resources. This launch is part of a broader strategic initiative to integrate Testing Services, Career and Transfer Services, and the First-Generation Student Support Center into one dynamic department. Under the leadership of Gabe Santner, Director of Foundational Excellence and Student Development, and with Counselor Jonathan Moraes continuing his impactful work, we’re building a seamless, student-centered experience from enrollment to graduation and beyond.
I’m also happy to share that our Respiratory Care program received glowing feedback during its reaccreditation site visit...no citations and several commendations for excellence!
As we gear up for another incredible academic year, I’m thrilled to share some exciting moments and milestones from the last month.
Dr. Linda Maykel and I met two promising candidates for our Board of Trustees. With three seats currently open, their names have been sent to the Governor’s Office for consideration. The Public Education Nominating Council will review nominations in September, moving us closer to welcoming new leadership.
I’m pleased to introduce our new Student Trustee, Noah MacDonald, who is a business administration student, founder of CORE (Coalition of Rising Entrepreneurs), and a dynamic campus leader. Noah brings passion, innovation, and Wyvern pride to the role!
Strengthening community ties, I went with Michelle Tufau, our Vice President for Strategic Enrollment & Student Engagement to meet with Brian Allen, the new Superintendent of Worcester Public Schools. We had a productive meeting and are exploring exciting opportunities for collaboration.
It has been a busy August, visiting with many community partners this past month at events like the Black Clergy Alliance picnic, Worcester Summer Jam Classic, and meeting with local and state leaders, including Senators Robyn Kennedy, Michael Rodrigues, and Michael Moore.
I also had the pleasure of celebrating and welcoming faculty, staff, and students at orientations, retreats, and the final Summer Lunchin’ series, complete with an ice cream truck and joyful moments with the Children’s School. I wrapped up August with a lively employee kickball game that sparked camaraderie and team spirit, just the boost we needed before launching into the fall semester!
From kickball games to strategic meetings, August has been a month of momentum, connection, and Wyvern spirit.
As we dive into the semester, let’s carry this energy forward. Whether you're teaching, learning, leading, or supporting, you’re part of what makes QCC extraordinary. Let’s make this Fall unforgettable!
Go Wyverns!
