In early October, the Quinsigamond Community College Campus Police Department was once again awarded state accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC).

“This is an honor not only for our department, but also for the college,” said QCC Chief of Police Kevin Ritacco. “Accreditation assures the college community that the Police Department is current in training, policy and procedures to help keep them safe.”

In 2017, QCC Police Department was the first Massachusetts community college police department awarded state-recognized accreditation. Currently, QCC is one of only two community college police departments in the state that have been accredited by MPAC. The award period is three years and is the second re-accreditation award for the department.

“The standards are rigorous to become an accredited police department, but they are also incredibly important. This accreditation assures the community that we have met the highest level of policing,” Chief Ritacco added.

The process includes compliance with over 300 total standards. The standards include areas such as operations, administration, training, investigation, community relations, detainee processing/handling/transportation, internal affairs, emergency management, records, communications and a variety of other areas.
