Worcester--Quinsigamond Community College recently held an open house at its new downtown center.  The event re-introduced the community to QCC’s new downtown location, QCC at CitySquare (formerly QCC College at the Mall).

Through a partnership with Berkeley Investments, Inc., developers of CitySquare, QCC relocated to the second level at 100 Front St., the only section of the mall not slated for demolition.  “Through the assistance of Young Park, President of Berkeley, and his staff, the College was able to transition to its new location without a hitch,” said Interim President Sheila Sykes.

The relocated center is 9,000 square feet and is home to ten classrooms, two computer labs, a video-conferencing suite, and administrative offices.  The video-conferencing equipment is part of QCC’s System for Adult Basic Education Support (SABES) and provides accessibility for workshops, training, and meetings outside of Central Massachusetts.  This equipment is part of a Massachusetts Department of Education grant awarded to SABES.

The new center offers hundreds of classes, including professional development seminars, health care training, lean manufacturing training, personal enrichment and recreation courses, as well as a host of online programs.  Adult Basic Education classes, including GED and ESL, and a number of credit courses, including Criminal Justice and Hotel & Restaurant Management, are offered as well.

In addition to the College’s main campus on 670 West Boylston St. and CitySquare, QCC also has locations in Upton and Southbridge.  QCC serves over 13,000 students annually.

Quinsigamond Community College is the most affordable higher education in Worcester County. As a regional leader in education and workforce development, QCC serves the diverse educational needs of Central Massachusetts by providing affordable, accessible, and high quality programming leading to transfer, career, and lifelong learning.
