The Advising Center assists students in planning a strategy for achieving their career and academic goals. We guide students through the academic experience at QCC from the time they first enter the College until their final semester, and help them align their academic and career pursuits.

Welcome to QCC! Let’s Get You Registered. To start your first semester, follow these essential steps to unlock your course registration:

  1. Claim Your Credentials: Check your acceptance letter and personal email for instructions on how to access your QCC student account.
  2. Complete Mandatory Online Orientation: This self-paced session is the first step of our orientation program and includes vital information on Math and English placement.
  3. Take Needed Assessments: All new students must complete the English Self-Assessment or submit previous college transcripts for English credit. Some students may also need to take the QMAT, math placement.
  4. Meet with an Advisor: Once you complete Online Orientation, you’ll get instructions to set up an appointment to meet with an advisor. You will be able to discuss your goals and register for classes during this meeting.

Your advisor will help you:

  • Map out your career and educational goals.
  • Create a personalized academic plan.
  • Build a schedule that fits your life.
  • Learn how to self-register for future terms.

Stay on Track for Graduation We offer appointments and drop-in hours for current and returning students to better meet your unique academic needs. Students who are assigned to a specific advisor should always connect with that person first.

  1. Download the Navigate360 App: Use the app to schedule appointments with your assigned advisor (some advisors may have other preferred methods of seeing up appointments – connect with them directly to be sure!)
  2.  Choose Your Visit Type:
    1. Appointments: Best for long-term academic planning and in-depth conversations.
    2. Drop-in Hours: Best for quick questions that don't require a full appointment.
  3. Visit During Drop-in Hours: No appointment is needed during these times:
    1. Mondays: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    2. Tuesdays: 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    3. Wednesdays: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    4. Thursdays: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Advisor Assignments (Know Your Team)

Understanding who your advisor is helps you get the most out of your QCC experience.

Timeline: Official assignments take place in late September and early February.

Notification: You will be notified of your advisor assignment via your student email.

Advisor Types: You may be assigned to an Advising Center Advisor (professional staff), a Faculty Advisor (a professor in your major), or a Program Advisor (for specialized programs like TRiO or Gateway to College).

New students will typically get an advisor assignment after the start of their first semester. Until that time, they can get help from the Advising Center.

The Q (Student & Faculty Portal)

The Q is your go-to place for pertinent information. The Advising page within the “Services” tab on The Q contains resources on how to read your degree audit, how to register, and helpful success materials.

Find your Advisor: You can see who your assigned advisor is on The Q, under “My Academics” and “My Academic Information”
