WORCESTER, MA – August 20, 2026 – QCC employees recently rolled up their sleeves for the College's Community Service Day, a collaborative volunteer initiative designed to strengthen community connections through hands-on service.
Participants from departments across the College donned gloves and grabbed trash bags to clean up four Worcester parks: Burncoat, Elm, Institute and University. Together, the volunteers collected and removed more than 150 pounds of litter.
“This event is a first step of many,” said Mendrick Banzuela, program administrator for the Office of Access, Opportunity, and Institutional Compliance (AOIC). “With our intentions in the right place, we can take action to have a positive impact on our community together. We have already received encouragement from our neighbors who saw us and appreciated what we did.”
The Community Service Day event resulted from a collaboration between the Office of AOIC and QCC’s Healthcare Simulation Support Technician Paul Ledoux, who is the founder of Worcester Litter Incorporated.
"The idea is to build camaraderie amongst the QCC community and allow us to connect even deeper into the area Quinsig serves," Ledoux said.
Ledoux started Worcester Litter Incorporated as a volunteer-driven environmental initiative focused on improving public spaces through grassroots litter removal, environmental education and creative community engagement.
What began as a personal effort, picking up litter while walking his dog, quickly grew into a community movement. As friends and community members asked to join him, Ledoux began organizing group cleanup events and sharing their impact on social media, attracting even more volunteers and support.
Ledoux’s cleanup expertise proved invaluable for QCC’s Community Service Day, which garnered positive feedback from employees who reported feeling accomplished and engaged with the people and environment around them. QCC is also exploring other opportunities to provide service through hands-on volunteering with other organizations.
