Student of the Month Chrislor Revalcy

QCC student Chrislor Revalcy is exactly the type of caregiver that everyone would hope to have when facing a medical issue. As he continues to grow his healthcare career, he places the utmost importance on treating people with empathy, respect, and kindness.

"I realize that for some people, their job is just a job. But for me, it's a call to help others," Revalcy shared.

As a high school student, Revalcy envisioned a future in medicine. But, as often happens, life took him in a different direction, so he focused on building a career in business and raising a family.

Several years ago, Revalcy's father passed away after an illness and difficulties accessing the care he needed. Not long afterward, he faced another battle when his wife became sick and was hospitalized. She eventually recovered, but Revalcy was affected by witnessing her receive poor treatment.

Revalcy carries these experiences with him, but does not let them overtake him. He has poured his energy into being a healthcare professional and treating patients with compassion and dignity.

Revalcy became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) through QCC's Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education and gained experience working in a nursing home, followed by his current position with autistic youth at a behavioral health organization.

"My strategy is to know them and their family. It's a privilege, and I'm going to make people feel valuable," he said.

The strategy is working. Revalcy said that with time and a smile, he can build a connection with some of the most challenging individuals.

He is now pursuing a nursing degree at the college.

"No words can describe how grateful I am for QCC," Revalcy said. "They offer so many things like job training, job fairs, preparing your resume, internships. I can always find somebody who is willing to help me out with classes or advice on anything."

Even though he is busy working, taking care of his son, and going to school, Revalcy found time to start Independent Living Support Services, a service that offers non-medical in-home support such as cleaning and companionship. He even pitched his business at the Auxilium Center for Entrepreneurship WooTank qualifier and hopes to help the many families who need extra assistance taking care of loved ones.

With a long-term goal of pursuing a doctoral degree, Revalcy will undoubtedly continue to bring his special sense of compassion and humanity to healthcare for years to come.
