Senior Community Outreach Counselor Geovanni Cruz is quintessentially QCC. Years before he became an employee, he was a deeply engaged student at the college. Geo left his mark on the community, serving as president of the Student Government Association, leading campus tours, and assisting the Wyvern mascot for college events. Even after he transferred to Worcester State University, he kept a connection to the college by running QCC's Brothers & Keepers program through his AmeriCorps service.
"QCC is where I created my family," Geo said.
Now, Geo has come full circle, helping students navigate the same enrollment process he experienced. Remembering the challenges he faced, such as appealing a financial aid decision, allows him to connect with students on a personal level, and he takes pride in sharing his story as proof that success is possible.
What's something people might not know about you?
Feeding people is my love language. I get that from my mother and my grandmother. When I was a student here, I cooked for other students who weren't with their families during the holidays.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
My mind goes directly to the show "Charmed," and I want all of their powers. But there's one called orbing. You can think of a place and immediately go there. You can bring people with you too!
What are you most proud of?
My educational accomplishments. I am a first-generation, low-income student who is getting his master's degree. And I might consider a doctorate.
Where's your happy place?
Spending quality time with my chosen family.
