Professor of Business Administration Jean McLean received the 2026 Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Award

WORCESTER, MA – February 9, 2026 – Quinsigamond Community College Professor Jean McLean has been named a recipient of the Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Award by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). This is a national honor recognizing faculty who demonstrate passion for teaching, commitment to students and excellence in the community college mission.

McLean, who has worked at QCC for more than 30 years, was recognized for her student-centered teaching, leadership in academic innovation and advocacy for student success, both inside and outside the classroom.

“As a first-generation college student raised by a single mother who was deaf, I learned early that education is the surest path to independence. I have devoted my career to creating opportunities for students, especially those who needed someone to believe in them,” said McLean.

In the classroom, McLean emphasizes real-world skills, critical thinking and confidence-building, helping students connect coursework to meaningful career and transfer outcomes. Her commitment to mentoring continues well beyond graduation, as she remains a steady source of support while students pursue careers and further education.

Beyond teaching, McLean has played a pivotal role in expanding academic and career pathways at QCC. Working with colleagues and industry partners, she helped develop new programs such as the Insurance and Logistics certificates, expanded transfer opportunities through articulation agreements with four-year institutions and secured Perkins funding to support business tutors.

McLean’s leadership and service have been equally impactful. She currently serves as chair of the Academic Policy and Standards Council and has been deeply involved in college governance. She previously served eight years as vice president of the Faculty Senate, founded QCC’s chapter of the Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society, and mentors new faculty members in curriculum design, assessment and student-centered teaching practices.

“Jean McLean exemplifies everything the Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Award represents,” QCC President Dr. Luis Pedraja said. “Her unwavering commitment to students, her leadership across the college and her belief in the transformative power of education have left an indelible mark on our institution and the hundreds of students she has served.”
