QCC Class of 2025 alum Donald Collins

Name: Donald Collins

Title: VIP Tech Support, AstraZeneca

Degree: Computer Systems Engineering Technology - Computer Support Option and Personal Computer Support Specialist Certificate, Class of 2025

How did QCC impact your journey?

QCC profoundly impacted my journey. The staff and faculty truly held my hand from the initial application process through my graduation. I had some of the best professors who offered invaluable advice and encouragement. Academically, I used student resources to earn six CompTIA and four Microsoft certifications. These certifications, paired with my Computer Systems Engineering Technology - Computer Support Option and Personal Computer Support Specialist Certificate, and coursework from the PTK Honor Society, allowed me to seamlessly transfer credits to Southern New Hampshire University, leaving me with less than a year to complete my Bachelor of Arts in Information Technologies. As a student and parent to three young sons, the QCC Student Parenting Support Department provided crucial support. The tremendous return on investment from QCC enabled me to secure a new, full-time role with AstraZeneca less than a month after completing my degree. This was my main goal, as I had been a temporary Deskside Support Technician at a financial services company for four years and needed QCC to help me finally secure a permanent, advanced career position in IT.

What are you currently doing?

I recently began a new, full-time role as VIP Tech Support at AstraZeneca in Seaport Boston, where I provide technical support to the senior executive team in the pharmaceutical industry. I am also continuing my education at Southern New Hampshire University, pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. Giving back to the community that supported me is important, so I am a proud member of the QCC Alumni Association and was recently appointed as a QCC Mentor. I'm especially happy to have been selected to mentor a current cybersecurity student at QCC.

What advice would you give to current students and fellow alumni?

My best advice to current students and fellow alumni is: Do not give up! There is always help and support available once you take the initiative to become your own self-advocate. QCC is a local and life-changing institution that will take you far with the experiences and credentials you earn while you are there. The college ensures you have all the tools and the necessary support system to achieve your dreams. Remember, with resilience and hard work, nothing is impossible.
