QCC alum Harolyn Castillo Arriaga

Name: Harolyn Castillo Arriaga

Title: Founder and CEO OF World of Foods Worcester, CEO of Verde Events, Visiting Nurse of two Homecare Agencies, Community Outreach Coordinator for various Worcester Organizations

How did QCC impact your journey?

QCC marked the beginning of my academic journey in the United States. Having arrived from the Dominican Republic in August 2001 at the age of 18, I enrolled at QCC in the Spring of 2002. It was there that I learned English and earned my ESL certificate, laying the foundation for my future studies. I later transitioned into the Business Management Transfer Associate program, and with only four credits remaining, I decided to pursue a career in nursing. Today, I am proud to work in both business and healthcare, as this allows me to fulfill my passion for serving and uplifting the community.

What are you currently doing?

Currently, I’m immersed in the business sector while maintaining a part-time role in healthcare—two fields that allow me to blend strategy with service. This unique balance fuels my passion for community impact, whether I’m supporting patients or coordinating initiatives that bring people together. I’m especially devoted to cultural advocacy, with a focus on organizing vibrant events that celebrate global cuisine, Dominican heritage, and the power of inclusivity.

Outside of work, I love spending quality time with my two amazing children, Leah, 16, and Jaythan, 13. They are my why. I’m also an avid traveler, nature lover, and passionate bachata and salsa dancer.

Everything I do comes from a place of wanting to lift people the same way I have been uplifted. Whether it’s through my work, sharing culture, or just connecting with others, I’m always looking for ways to make a real difference and leave something positive behind.

What advice would you give to current students and fellow alumni?

My advice to current students and fellow alumni is to embrace every opportunity for growth (network, network, network, even at the grocery stores), even when the path feels doubtful. Your journey may take unexpected turns—as mine did—but each experience adds value to your story. Stay connected to your purpose, remain open to learning, to meeting new people, and never underestimate the power of community. Whether you're just starting or navigating a new chapter, remember that your resilience and passion can create meaningful change. Keep striving, keep serving, and always lift others as you rise.

How can we connect with you and support you?

Also, please get in touch with me through community events. I’m always involved in planning or supporting initiatives that bring people together. Whether it’s cultural festivals, food fairs, or outreach programs, I love collaborating with others who share a passion for inclusivity and celebration.

To support me, simply show up, spread the word, and stay engaged. I believe in the power of community, and every bit of encouragement, partnership, or even a shared idea helps fuel the work I do. Let’s keep building something beautiful, one event, one connection at a time.
