QCC's Office of Student Life and Leadership (OSL) is much more than student events and giveaways; it's a place for connection and growth.
Director of Student Life and Leadership Ashlee Givins, has been at the college for close to four years and worked in higher education for over a decade.
"I've made an impact at all the institutions I've worked at, but at QCC, it's truly life changing for our students. Some people tell me I'm the first person who's cared about them and I don't take that lightly," she shared.
While their programming is both entertaining and intentional (check out the Upcoming Events article to learn about events like Study Palooza), Student Life offers a chance for the next generation of workers to build mentoring relationships and leadership skills through workshops, trainings and employment opportunities such as orientation leader positions.
Givins loves being able to advocate for the students and particularly empowering them to advocate for themselves. OSL oversees the Student Government Association (SGA), the voice of the student body, overseeing all student clubs and organizations and facilitating communication between students and the institution.
"Seeing the SGA get back up and running this year has been amazing. It's like watching democracy in action," Givins said.
Student Life also knows how important family is to the QCC community and has been encouraging students to bring their children and families to take part in events. Student Life adjusted their Spring Fling Week to align with K-12 April vacation and will be offering more kid-friendly activities moving forward.
Through its diverse programming, advocacy opportunities and inclusive approach, the Office of Student Life and Leadership continues to build a vibrant campus community where students not only succeed academically but also develop the confidence and skills to become tomorrow's leaders.
