WORCESTER, MA – April 22, 2025 – The Quinsigamond Community College Board of Trustees has issued a statement in support of President Dr. Luis Pedraja, following a vote of no confidence by QCC’s chapter of the Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) union on April 10, 2025.

According to The Board of Trustees statement, “During the public comment period of the April 16, 2025 QCC Board of Trustees meeting, three MCCC union and faculty leaders made statements about certain MCCC professional staff non-reappointment decisions related to a no confidence vote taken at a recent MCCC meeting which we understand was attended by 122 of the approximate 600 MCCC members.

“The Board takes these concerns seriously.  After careful consideration, the Board of Trustees expresses its continuing support of and confidence in President Luis Pedraja. Over the past eight years, President Pedraja’s leadership has advanced QCC’s mission of supporting the success of our students while also advancing justice and fairness for all members of our community.  President Pedraja has ensured that: (1) QCC’s process for making employment decisions follows all procedures and processes provided by the agreements collectively bargained with our unions, and (2) before an employment decision is made, employment recommendations are reviewed at multiple levels including direct managers, area VPs, HR, and the legal department.

“President Pedraja has also created initiatives to increase recruitment and retention of faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds including mentoring and training for both employees and their supervisors. As part of that continuing effort, earlier this year, President Pedraja tasked the College’s Executive Director of Access and Opportunity to assess these initiatives, and we all look forward to that report.  The Board of Trustees supports President Pedraja’s employment decisions that have been questioned as lawful, appropriate, and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement negotiated with MCCC.  Those sound decisions further the College’s mission and student success.”

"I am deeply grateful to the Board of Trustees for their confidence and trust. I remain committed to advancing our shared mission of making QCC a place that fully embodies the principles of equity, fairness, and belonging,” Pedraja said.
