How to Apply

Applying for financial aid is not difficult and it's free! Just follow these simple steps and you're on your way. If you have any questions about the process, please call or email us. We will be happy to help you.

  1. File online at FAFSA on the Web (remember to print and submit the signature page if you don't have a PIN). If you don't have access to the Internet, complete and mail a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who completed a FAFSA last year may have received a Renewal FAFSA. This form can also be used. Be sure to designate Quinsigamond Community College (Federal School Code 002175) in the College release section. Be sure you select the application for the correct academic year. A list of common mistakes to avoid. If you have already filed your tax returns, we strongly recommend that you utilize the IRS Data Retrieval tool to complete your FAFSA.  Using the tool allows you to complete the process faster and will minimize the amount of follow-up required by schools.  If you have not filed your taxes yet and complete the FAFSA using estimated tax information, you may also use the IRS Data Retrieval tool to make corrections to that data after you have filed.  Information on the tool and who is eligible to use it is available within the online FAFSA application.
  2. Allow 2-4 weeks for your FAFSA to be processed. You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), which you must review for accuracy and further instructions.
  3. For those applicants selected for verification by the U.S. Department of Education, we encourage you to use the IRS Data Retrieval tool in order to provide the fastest and most accurate means of tax information.
  4. If additional documentation is required you will receive a letter from the Financial Aid Office. For prompt service, respond to these requests as quickly as possible.

Please Note: You must first complete the FAFSA. Then the Financial Aid Office reviews your application to determine if additional documents are necessary. If more information is required, we must wait until you respond to this request before we can continue working on your file. Once your file is complete, it can take 2-8 weeks (depending on the time of year) before you will receive an Award Letter. Although you can submit your FAFSA as early as January preceding the next fall semester, the Financial Aid Office will begin reviewing applications at the end of March. The busiest time of year in the Financial Aid Office is April through August preceding the fall semester. It is not unusual for the entire process to take 12-16 weeks. You must plan ahead to receive financial aid by the time your bill is due.
