Last month the largest group of Practical Nursing graduates in QCC’s history received their pins during a pinning ceremony, held at QCC’s Hebert Auditorium, on the College’s main campus. A total of 72 LPNs and 72 future nurses are now ready to enter the workforce.

Valedictorian Ama Osei and Salutatorian Lydia Otenewaa led the graduates in the traditional pinning ceremony that has been a part of nursing graduations since Florence Nightingale’s days as a nurse.

“We are so proud of these amazing graduates who worked tirelessly to attain their dreams of becoming a licensed practical nurse,” said Dean of Healthcare Pat Schmohl.

QCC’s Practical Nurse Education program prepares students with skills and education that will enable them to become an effective LPN. The Practical Nursing Certificate prepares students to assume an entry-level position in the field or pursue additional education. Graduates of the program assume responsibilities related to direct patient care in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, doctor’s offices, clinics, extended care facilities, home and community health agencies. Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN).

The Practical Nursing Program is conducted over a minimum 40-week period involving five semesters of study. Classes are scheduled full-time during the day, as well as full-time in the evening.
