A donation to QCC's GivingTuesday campaign can make the difference in the life of a student in need. Staff member June Geary is one of the many volunteers who helps out at QCC's Food Pantry and Resource Center.

As the clock counts down to GivingTuesday (Dec. 1), QCC is asking for the support of the entire community in helping its students during a time when their need is greater than ever before.

Today our life is vastly different from last year. The unprecedented challenges brought on by a global pandemic have changed all of our lives in unimaginable ways. Yet what stands out amid the chaos of the last year is the indomitable strength of Quinsigamond Community College students and alumni. They rose to the challenges that the Coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis put before them, and responded in record numbers to help keep our communities safe. They became the glue holding our communities together.

Yet their sacrifices came at a cost. Some could not stay in college because they were committed to helping the sick.

“Prior to COVID, I was a full-time student working part-time as a nursing assistant. When the pandemic hit, I needed to take on more shifts to help care for the influx of patients and had to leave school until things settle down. QCC has been very understanding, and has even provided me with a laptop so that I can take remote classes when my schedule permits. As a single mother of three, without their support, I wouldn’t be able to continue my education.” - QCC Emergency Fund Recipient/Student.

The QCC Student Emergency Fund was able to help this student, but as the pandemic continues, the Fund is being stretched to its limits.

NOW it is our turn to help them. A gift of any amount can make a huge difference in the lives of our students. As the clock counts down, QCC is asking everyone to dig deep to help make a difference in the life of a college student.  Donors can specify where they want their donations to go to, such as the QCC Foundation’s Student Emergency Fund, the QCC Food Pantry and Resource Center or student scholarships. Every donation makes a difference.

The College is challenging all its alumni to help meet its $30,000 fundraising goal by asking each graduate to donate at least one dollar.

“QCC is not just a college in Worcester, QCC is Worcester’s college and by supporting our students you are supporting the community," said Vice President of External Affairs, Dr. Viviana Abreu-Hernandez.

Be a part of the GivingTuesday movement and enter the holiday season knowing you’ve made a positive difference in a student’s life.
