WORCESTER, MA— April 3, 2022—Quinsigamond Community College has received $975,000 in federal funding to purchase a Hyflex (hybrid flexible) Technology System. This state-of-the-art technology will combine both online and classroom-based components to increase access to higher education.

“This technology will be a game-changer for so many students who otherwise would be unable to attend in-person classes,” said QCC President Luis G. Pedraja, Ph.D.

The Hyflex Technology System will enable QCC instructors to teach students who are taking a course in-person at the same time as students who are taking the course in a remote format. This type of hybrid education helps to bridge the gap between in-person and online education.

“Our education system ought to be about uplifting students, helping them overcome obstacles, and empowering them to succeed,” said Congressman James P. McGovern. “That’s why my team and I fought for and secured $975,000 in federal funding for a HyFlex Technology System to allow Quinsigamond Community College courses to be offered online so they can accommodate the busy schedules of students who are working, providing care to relatives, or having difficulty getting to campus. Our community and our Commonwealth are stronger when every young person, no matter their background, has the opportunity to succeed. I’m confident that this technology will help bridge this gap and enhance the already excellent education provided at QCC.”

The federal funding will enable the college to offer this type of educational model in approximately 25 of its classrooms.

“As Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Congressman McGovern has continually championed access to higher education for all and was instrumental in securing federal funding for QCC,” President Pedraja said. “This level of funding support will help facilitate more students to realize a better future through higher education.”
