WORCESTER, MA— May 10, 2018— A total of 1,450 students will walk across the stage of the DCU Center and walk into Quinsigamond Community College’s history books as the largest

commencement class in the college’s history. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a passionate advocate for higher education reform, will be on hand to deliver the commencement address to the graduates. Her 2017 UMass Amherst commencement address was one of Rolling Stone’s top 10 speeches of 2017.

This year is also the inaugural year of the college’s sixth President, Dr. Luis G. Pedraja. This will be his first QCC commencement since taking the helm in July 2017. Dr. Pedraja has spent the past 10 months fostering community engagement, mentorship, accessibility to higher education and student success.

“We are so proud of the amazing accomplishments of our upcoming graduates,” said Dr. Pedraja. “This is such a monumental time for QCC. By continuing to make in-roads within the communities we serve, we are fostering relationships that increase higher education access for all people, particularly those who have historically been underserved. Education is an economic driver and an investment in our future. It is one that will repay us two and three fold.”

Today the college boasts 13,000 full and part-time day, evening and online students and over 120 associate degree and certificate career options. QCC's Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education offers customized workforce training programs to members of the business community. More than 92 percent of QCC graduates stay in Central Massachusetts upon graduating, helping to build a robust workforce within the region.

QCC’s commencement will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the DCU Center, Worcester.
