QCC Named to 2015 Military Friendly Schools List

Worcester, MA – November 17, 2014 – QCC announces that the College has been designated a 2015 Military Friendly® School by Victory Media, the leader in successfully connecting the military and civilian worlds. (Victory Media is a service-disabled, veteran-owned business serving the military community since 2001.)

QCC, currently celebrating its 50th anniversary has offered services for student Veterans for many years. The  Office of Veteran Affairs’ mission is to provide support to assist student Veterans and members of the Armed Forces in the adjustment to becoming successful in civilian and college life. QCC and the Veteran Affairs Office are committed to promoting college spirit as well as establishing and maintaining fellowship amongst veterans and students on campus.

The Veteran Affairs Office at QCC is a one-stop office where student Veterans can receive:

  • Mentoring Service
  • Peer Tutoring Assistance
  • Assistive Technology Loan Program
  • Information about Military credit
  • Activities and Events
  • Veteran Benefits Support
  • GI Bill® Certification
  • Financial Aid Support
  • Academic Advising Assistance
  • Disability Accommodations Assistance
  • First-Time Freshman Support Program

Currently the Veteran Affairs Office is holding a canned food drive through November 20, for the Grove Street Veteran’s Shelter with a 500-can goal. The office will also be sending holiday cards and letters to servicemen and women currently deployed in Afghanistan and at local Veterans hospitals. Letters and cards will be accepted at QCC’s Veteran Affairs office until December 5. QCC actively supports Veterans through many student volunteer activities as well, including Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s annual support of Veteran’s Inc., Worcester, Thanksgiving Holiday meal distribution, preparation and service on Thanksgiving Day, as well as marching in Worcester’s annual Veteran’s Day parade.

Paula Ogden, Director of Veteran Affairs at QCC said recently, “We owe this support to our servicemen and women who served our country so diligently. We appreciate everything our veterans have done for us and try to give back every day.”
