QCC to Inaugurate its Fifth President on September 28

WORCESTER, Ma. – On Friday, September 28 at 3:30pm, Quinsigamond Community College will hold its inauguration ceremony for Dr. Gail E. Carberry, who assumed the presidency in August, 2006.  She is the College’s fifth president and second woman to hold the title.

A native of Worcester, President Carberry graduated from Worcester State College with a degree in education and started teaching in the Worcester Public Schools.  After moving to Springfield, she enrolled at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC), where she graduated with a certificate in small business management.  She went on to the University of Massachusetts, where she completed her master’s degree with specialization in faculty development and strategic planning.  In 1992, President Carberry completed her doctorate at UMass in organizational development and the diffusion of innovation into academic settings.

President Carberry’s commitment to community colleges and the success of students spans over 30 years as a student and administrator. She served eight years as Director and as an Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs at STCC. She became Vice President of Institutional Development there in 1990. She was a founder of the STCC Foundation and a driving force behind a host of community and business partnerships.

President Carberry’s goals for QCC are genuine and straightforward. She is committed to the College’s mission, vision, and core values.  Her vision is focused on positioning the College to support a knowledge-based workforce and economy in Central Massachusetts, ensuring that residents have access to quality, affordable higher education. Carberry believes that the quality of life in a community is linked to the education of its residents. Her vision includes the fostering of partnerships within the community to expand higher education access for populations who have not been readily served in the past.

The inauguration ceremony will begin at 3:30pm in the Hebert Auditorium on the campus of Quinsigamond Community College.
