Quinsigamond Community College Proudly Recognizes the Achievements of its Area Students

WORCESTER, MA—Over 200 awards were presented to area men and women, who are among the 700 students graduating from Quinsigamond Community College on Thursday, May 18.  They were honored on May 10 for their academic achievements at the College’s Annual Honors and Awards Dinner at the Crowne Plaza.  Other student awards were presented for outstanding campus and citizen leadership.  Over 400 relatives and friends of the honorees attended the ceremony.

There were two recipients of the 2006 Outstanding Student Awards.
Caitlin Morris of Worcester received the Outstanding Student Citizen Award, and Ryan Foley of Shrewsbury received the Outstanding Student Leader Award.

Special Recognition Awards were given to students who made significant contributions outside of any student organization framework.  The five recipients of the Special Recognition Award Special Recognition Awards were, Michael West of Millbury, Alexander Shuris of Princeton, Kim Coleman, William Dowd, and Patrick Harvey, Worcester.

Distinguished Service Awards were presented to four students: Carol Digiovanni of Auburn, Pamela McIntosh of Leicester, Kyla Calcagno of Marlborough, and Teri Wooldridge of Worcester.

There were eight recipients of the All-American Scholar Award.  Included are the following students: Patrick Sebuwufu of Acton, Ryan Hartwell of Bolton, Samuel Talbot of Fitchburg, Brandon Gilvey of North Adams, Lee Pappas, Besnik Pashaj, Jacqui Richardson, and  Natalie Velazquez of Worcester.

The following eight students received the National Collegiate Engineering Award:  Patrick Sebuwufu of Acton, Ryan Hartwell of Bolton, Samuel Talbot of Fitchburg, Brandon Gilvey of  North Adams, Lee Pappas, Besnik Pashaj, Jacqui Richardson, and  Natalie Velazquez of Worcester.

Eight National Computer Science Collegiate Awards were earned by the following students: Patrick Sebuwufu of Acton, Ryan Hartwell of Bolton, Samuel Talbot of Fitchburg, Brandon Gilvey of North Adams, Lee Pappas, Besnik Pashaj, Jacqui Richardson, and Natalie Velazquez of Worcester.

Eight National Computer Physical Sciences Awards were earned by the following students: Patrick Sebuwufu of Acton, Ryan Hartwell of Bolton, Samuel Talbot of Fitchburg, Brandon Gilvey of North Adams, Lee Pappas, Besnik Pashaj, Jacqui Richardson, and Natalie Velazquez of Worcester.

This year there were 17 students named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges for their academic achievement at Quinsigamond.  They are: Stephanie Newcomb of East Douglas, Janet Harris of Gardner, Kathleen Orciuch of Holden, Ryan Foley and Theresa Mastrofillipo of Shrewsbury, Christine Cardogno of West Boylston, Garifalia-Lea Angelis, Kim Coleman, Michelle Cormier, Rebekah Jablonski, Paul Kunigonis, Caitlin Morris, Mercy Mbuthia, Anna Slocum, Kaysian Wisdom, Teri Wooldridge, and Nancy Wuabu of Worcester.

Special Departmental Awards, which were established in honor of deceased members of the Quinsigamond faculty and staff, were presented to the following students.  
The Nancy Ohan Award for Outstanding Student in Occupational Therapy was received by Joy Cardogno of West Boylston. Kasondra Iadarola won the Rose Caprioli Award for Outstanding Student in Occupational Therapy.

Departmental Awards given for Outstanding Achievement in a Degree or Certificate Program include the following: Lorelle Anisko (Early Childhood Education) and Lisa Barnes (Business Administration-Career) of Charlton, Rola Najjar (Applied Arts Program) and Kathleen Orciuch (Radiologic Technology) of Holden, Margaret LaVorgna (Business Administration) and Sharon Lecuyer (Liberal Arts) of Leominster, Brandon Gilvey (Mathematics) of North Adams, Susan Lyons (Criminal Justice Program) of North Brookfield, Eveline Djumboung (Nurse Education), Dana Wall (Nurse Education), and Ryan Foley of Shrewsbury (Liberal Arts), Brian Kohlstrom
(Natural Science) of Northboro, Steven McKinley (Respiratory Therapy Program) of North Brookfield, Besnik Pashaj (Physics), Jacqui Richardson (Basic Engineering), Anna  Slocum (Dental Hygiene), Stephen Tettey (Business Administration-Transfer), Phuong Tran (English as a Second Language), Kathleen Tremblay (Human Service Program), and Hyacinth Weaver (Medical Assisting-Medical Support Specialist), all of Worcester.
