The Federal Work Study program provides an excellent opportunity for students with financial need to work in part-time jobs, up to 20 hours per week. You will earn money to assist you with college expenses while gaining work experience. Work study jobs are available on-campus and off-campus in community service organizations and schools in the Worcester area. You also may be able to create your own work study job. Limited funding is available for each academic year.
The pay rate for work study jobs on-campus starts at $8.00 per hour. The Financial Aid Office will assist you in obtaining a position. If you stay in the same position for more than a year, you may be eligible for pay increases allowing you to earn up to $9 per hour.
The pay rate for off-campus jobs can be as high as $10.00 per hour. Assistance in finding off-campus employment is also available. In addition, if you have a job in a community service agency, you may be able to convert your job to a work study position. Your employer would then be reimbursed for your wages (90% of your pay rate, up to $10 per hour, 20 hours per week).
The amount of your award will depend on your pay rate, the amount of financial need that you have and the number of hours that you work. You will receive a paycheck every two weeks for the hours worked in the previous pay period.
