Associate in Arts in Early Childhood Education |
This certificate is designed for those working in the field of early
childhood education who want to continue their education. The curriculum is
based on the nationally recognized Child Development Associate (CDA). All
credits earned in this certificate program may be applied toward an Early
Childhood Education Associate degree program. The Child Development Associate
(CDS) Certificate provides access to the Associate degree in Early Childhood
Education for those already working in childcare and education. Students
entering this certificate program must be employed by a cooperating agency such
as Headstart or another childcare agency. The Student must be working in a
preschool center-based setting and have permission to act as lead teacher at
least once a week throughout the training. The agency must recommend the student
for the certificate program and be willing to meet with college representatives
to support the student’s professional development. All fieldwork related to this
certificate is conducted at the student’s work site. Students may elect to earn
the national (CDA) Child Development Associate, however, it is not a certificate
requirement.
