President's Climate Commitment
Accomplishments
Energy and What Conservation
The College is saving $162,000 annually by implementing a series of energy
conservation measures including: more efficient lighting, lighting controls,
water conservation, and insulation.
Rideshare Efforts
QCC is helping to greenhouse emissions caused by automobiles by promoting
ridesharing benefits for employees who car pool or bicycle to work, offering
discounted transit passes, alternative working schedules and increasing online
course offerings for students.
Recycling Efforts
Since 2006, more than 85 tons of paper, bottles and cans have been recycled
resulting in a cost savings of $22,100.
Techno Trash
In 2007, more than 11,845 lbs of electronic waste have been recycled saving
the College over $3,000
Textbook Recycling
In 2007, 59 cases of textbooks have been provided to agencies such as Better
World Books, Books for Africa and the National Center for Literacy. By reusing
these books instead of disposing of them, the College has saved $4,176.
GEM Cars
Electronic vehicles used for transport around campus.
Composting
Students and faculty members working to produce loam for flower beds using
kitchen waste.
Waterless Urinals
The College will save 30,000 to 90,000 gallons of water per year thanks to
the instillation of waterless urinals. |
