Practical Nursing Program

Applicants should understand the State Board of Registration in Nursing reserves the right to refuse an applicant the privilege of sitting for the NCLEX-PN examination based on a Good Moral Character Licensure requirement. As a result of this requirement, a Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI) and Sexual Offenders Record Information (SORI) check is required of all students accepted into the program and each semester thereafter. Students should be aware that a court record might prevent them from taking the NCLEX-PN examination.

Health Data

Prior to entering the Nurse Education Program, all students must provide the following data at orientation:

  1. *Hepatitis series must be completed prior to entering the program. This is a 3-part series; the first of which must be received 6-months prior to entry into the program.
  2. The health form given by the Department of Nurse Education is the only physical form that will be accepted. Please review the health form prior to making an appointment to ensure all laboratory tests are performed prior to your physical examination and vaccines are administered at the time of your physical examination. The physical examination requires primary care documentation of immunizations, as described on the Nurse Education department physical exam form. In addition, the physical examination also requires a current 2 step Mantoux ( 2 negative Tuberculin skin tests within 1 year, the second having been administered within 6 months of entry into the program). For those who have a positive Mantoux, a chest xray is required that has been done within 1 year of entry into the program. Clinical agency contracts require this examination and you cannot go to the agency for clinical experience if this is not received by the appropriate due date.
  3. Information regarding CPR certification. As a requisite for Nurse Education, you will need to become certified in CPR. The Nurse Education Department will only accept American Heart "Health Care Provider" CPR course or American Red Cross "Professional Rescue" CPR – Heart Saver or Community CPR certification are not acceptable for entry into the nursing department programs.
