Students Showcase Their Gateway College Experience

May 2016

Students created posters to highlight their experiences in the Gateway to College program, both academically and personally. These were displayed at a recent Student Showcase for attendees to learn more about the QCC program.

Family and friends, as well as people interested in the program, attended the event on April 28 to learn more about Gateway. The Gateway to College program helps students who have dropped out of high school or who may not graduate. Through our program, students can obtain their high school diploma and earn college credits at the same time. Many graduates go on to finish AA degrees and transfer to four-year colleges.

Gateway is rigorous. Students take a fulltime college course load, with classes that match their high school requirements, MCAS needs, and career interests. They attend classes in the fall and spring. Gateway students are college students, with a flexible college schedule. Gateway applicants need to have the maturity to handle this flexibility, as well as the rights and responsibilities of college life.

The showcase also included demonstrations by the Robotics class, and a student-produced video, which was filmed and edited by Josh Sadri and Danielle Hedge, about the program.
