QCC Hosts Lively A Cappella Contest

April 2016

In April, QCC hosted WEC’apella, an a cappella competition featuring eight groups from local high schools and colleges to raise awareness and funds for the Worcester Education Collaborative.

The Worcester Education Collaborative is an independent advocacy organization working to ensure students in the Worcester Public Schools are given the opportunity to succeed at the highest possible level.

The night’s format had each group performing two numbers to an enthusiastic audience. Holy Cross’ team, Fools on the Hill won the college honors and South High Community School group South Harmonies won for the high school honors.

Other competitors included the Doherty Memorial High School Madrigals, Abby Kelley Foster School Bearitones, the Assumption College Voce, Clark University Clark Bars, Anna Maria College Common Time and Worcester Polytechnic Institute Clark Bars.

Judges for the event, held in Hebert Auditorium, were Kevin Cox, Jr., a teacher at Burncoat High and college acapella competitor; Karon Shea, owner of Karon Shea Model Management; and Troy Siebels, executive director of The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts.
