WORCESTER, MA—April 6, 2018—U.S. Senior Senator Elizabeth Warren will give the keynote address at Quinsigamond Community College’s 53rd Commencement.

Senator Warren has made it her life’s work to fight for middle class families and has made higher education reform one of her top priorities.  As one of the most visible figures in national politics today, Senator Warren has been relentless in working to be the voice of the people. She is recognized as one of the nation's top experts on bankruptcy and the financial pressures facing middle class families.

Senator Warren has served as Chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), and through her direct initiatives, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was created. Senator Warren was also instrumental in introducing the Accreditation Reform and Enhanced Accountability Act of 2016 (AREAA). The legislation is designed to take steps to reduce student debt and protect students and taxpayers by reforming higher education accreditation and strengthening the Education Department's ability to hold accreditors accountable. The Senator has also proposed a bill with Senator Bernie Sanders, The College for All Act, which would enable students to attend most public universities for free.

Senator Warren has received many accolades over the years including being named one of the Most Influential Lawyers of the Decade by National Law Journal; honored by the Massachusetts Women's Bar Association with the Lelia J. Robinson Award and was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world three times by TIME Magazine.

“Senator Warren has a clear vision of the roles that community colleges play in the economic prosperity of our students and our communities, said QCC President Dr. Luis G. Pedraja. “She will serve as a strong foundation for our ceremony. We are sure her words will inspire and motivate our graduates to continue achieving great heights as they leave QCC and fulfill their dreams.”

The college’s Commencement will take place on May 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the DCU Center in Worcester.
