WORCESTER, Mass. –    Hanna Nguyen, a student at Quinsigamond Community College, has received the University of Massachusetts Community College Scholars Program Scholarship.

Nguyen is a student in QCC’s Business Administration Transfer program.  She will graduate in May with a GPA of 3.89 and attend the University of Massachusetts at Boston.

The University Scholars Program allows for the Presidents of each Massachusetts community college to nominate the top ranked student of the upcoming graduating class.  Twice a year, the program presents the top ranked community college students with scholarships of up to $10,000 to attend a college in the UMass system at Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, and Lowell.  Scholarships are granted for a maximum of four semesters to recipients who maintain at least a 3.75 GPA and take 12 or more credits a semester.  QCC President Gail Carberry nominated Nguyen for the 2007 scholarship

Nguyen came to the United States just five years ago from her native country, Vietnam.  She enrolled in ESL courses at QCC before continuing into her degree program and receiving high academic marks.  In addition to balancing her classroom efforts, Nguyen is also the mother of 3-year old twin boys.
