WORCESTER –   The Quinsigamond Community College/ARTSWorcester Art Gallery opens a new exhibit on Tuesday, January 23rd with a display of works by Nancy von Hone.  Her collection, titled, “Places and Spaces,” will be on display through April 13, 2007 at the QCC Administration Building Corridor Art Gallery, at 670 West Boylston Street.

The public is invited to attend the opening night reception on January 23rd starting at 6:00 p.m. in Conference Room 123A.  Admission is always free, and regular viewing hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Through pastel paintings, von Hone depicts places throughout New England, as well as Morocco, Ireland, Mexico and the Caribbean.

“I approach my art work as food for my soul – a refuge from the chaotic demands of everyday life,” states von Hone. “The sense of ‘calm in the storm’ that I feel while creating my paintings is the same sense that I hope my paintings bring to the viewer.”

Inspired by the watercolors of a John Singer Sargent exhibit, von Hone calls herself a “self-taught artist.”  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Affairs from the University of Rhode Island and a Master’s in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  However, she credits her father’s tutoring and several years of study with Worcester Art Museum teachers Ella Delyanis and Bill Griffiths with contributing to her artistic expression.  .
