Andersen Elected Chair of QCC Board of Trustees

WORCESTER, MA – Quinsigamond Community College Interim President Sheila Sykes recently announced the election of Brent J. Andersen as Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Tracy LaMantia as Vice Chairperson.  Roland Gauthier, who served as Chair and Jody Stark Cornetta, who served as Vice Chair, both since 2003, will continue as members of the Board.

Mr. Andersen was appointed to the Board by Governor Swift in 2002.  He has been serving on the Planning and Budget Committee since his appointment.  The Auburn resident holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Nichols College.  He is a construction executive serving as Vice President of Energy Insulation Conservation, Inc. in Worcester.  He also serves as Treasurer of the Massachusetts Republican Party and is a member of a number of boards including Auburn Youth and Family Services and the Rainbow Child Development Center in Worcester.  He is president of the Insulation Contractors Association of New England and is a Trustee of the Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers’ Pension and Health and Welfare funds.

Officers are elected each year in May by the 11 members of the Board and begin their term at the July meeting.  Of the election, Mr. Andersen said, “I am grateful to the trustees for the opportunity that they have given me, and I look forward to working with the Board, the administration, and the College to continue to guide Quinsigamond toward further success.”

Ms. LaMantia is a Strategic Business Systems Manager for employment giant Monster Worldwide in Maynard.  She previously brought her expertise in human resources, marketing, and systems implementation to PepsiCo, First Data Corp., and Resumix.  The Worcester resident holds an MBA from Boston University and a BS in Health Education from Penn State University.  She was appointed to the Board by Governor Swift in 2002 and has been a member of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee since.  Commenting on the election, Ms. LaMantia said, “I am very excited about serving as Vice Chair and look forward to helping the team take QCC to new levels as we prepare for the next generation of the College.”

Local Boards of Trustees were established under the reorganization of higher education in 1981 and share authority with the State Board of Higher Education in several important areas including curriculum.  With the exception of the student and alumni representative elected positions, appointments to the Board are made by the Governor of Massachusetts and are for five year terms.

Additional serving members include Bari Boyer, Francis Pisegna, Kristina Spillane, Natalie Hahn O’Flaherty, and Michael Theerman, all of Worcester, and James McKenna of Millbury.  John Casey is the current QCC student member. Students serve for one year.  QCC student Sharon Doherty begins her term on July 1.
