A Family Affair for the Guyettes
After three years of working as a Dental Assistant, JoAnne Guyette decided to go back to school for a degree in Dental Hygiene at QCC. Joanne calls these two years, “Grueling Schooling”. In 1983, she received an Associate’s Degree. Her first Dental Hygienist position was with a former QCC instructor, Dr. Patrick Paldino. After that JoAnne worked in several other dental offices, working part-time hours while raising a family. For the past 17 years, she’s been employed as a dental hygienist at Whitinsville Family Dentistry.
Joanne’s son John, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, graduated in May 2012 with an Associate’s Degree in Human Services. Her daughter Jamie, who enjoys singing, will be 2013 graduate, and will also earn an Associate’s Degree in Human Services.
During Joanne’s last semester, Albert Parent, a QCC Liberal Arts student, came into the dental clinic at QCC for a cleaning. He qualified to be a “board” patient, traveling to Springfield with JoAnne where cleaning his teeth was part of her Massachusetts Board Exam. Becoming friends, at graduation JoAnne introduced Albert to her sister. He’s now her brother-in-law and a paramedic and EMT and lives in Connecticut. Albert’s son, Adam, also attends QCC. He commuted to the Southbridge Campus for his first year. Next year will be his final year with QCC where Adam is studying engineering and hopes to transfer to WPI where he will complete a bachelor’s degree.
