Deborah Harmon Hines, Ph.D.

Dr. Harmon Hines has served in the UMASS Medical School’s senior administration for many years, most recently as Vice Provost for School Services since 2008. She has been a member of the school’s faculty in the department of cell biology since 1989 and professor since 1999. Dr. Hines is in charge of Matriculation Services (Student Financial Aid, Registrar’s Office, Student ADA Services, Weather Watch and Room Reservations) and Pre-Matriculation Programs. Pre-Matriculation Programs involves outreach to K-16+ students to groups under-represented in biotechnology, biomedical research and the health professions. These programs include the: 1) Worcester Pipeline Collaborative involving over 6,000 k-12 Worcester Public School students in a year-round curricular program; 2) the High School Health Careers program, a summer program; 3) the Summer Enrichment program, a four-week residential program; and 4) the NIH Summer Research program, to name a few.  Additionally, the Regional Science Resources Center in Shrewsbury does professional development for K-12 science and math teachers. Dr. Harmon Hines joined the Board in May 2010.
